With the regular season starting, our Lady Mustangs know that every game counts. There are only six weeks left of the basketball season, so they must fight every week in order to acquire a top spot in the league rankings.

The Lady Mustangs played against a top team, Will C. Wood, last Tuesday at our home court. The Mustangs were considered the underdog in this matchup. They used this as motivation to achieve a demanding lead in the first quarter: 20-4. Our Lady Mustangs caught Wood by surprise and established their respect as a team. Unfortunately, the game slipped away from the Mustangs, as Wood gained a lead in the third quarter. Both teams continued to fight until the last buzzer, but Wood simply fought harder in the last three quarters. The Mustangs lost the game 65-53 to the Wildcats. Despite the result of the game, they bounced back and won against Fairfield to obtain a 1-1 season record.

With 8 games left in the season, the Lady Mustangs are hoping to achieve a winning record in order to get to playoffs; however, that is not their main goal this season. According to one of our Lady Mustangs, Leia De los Santos, their main goal this season is to get past the first round of playoffs. For the past 2 years, they have only made it to the first round, and have lost. This year, the Lady Mustangs are going to work harder and they know that nothing is given to them. They are hungry and want to win.

Throughout the season, the Lady Mustangs will undergo many obstacles. Leia explains how their major obstacle will be to stay focused. Being that the majority of the team are seniors, it will be hard for them to stay focused since they are ready to graduate. If our Lady Mustangs are focused, they will be a problem for the other teams.
