At 5:45 AM, students rolled into the football stadium with Starbucks in hand, ready to celebrate the beginning of their senior year. In the darkness of the early morning, everyone found their friends and got settled in the bleachers. The seniors grabbed their hot chocolate and doughnuts, cuddled up, and prepared to watch the sunrise. By the time 6:30 rolled around, everyone was eager to see the sun come up but as minutes were going by, it was apparent that it was too cloudy to see the sunrise. The seniors started to leave, disappointed by the sunrise – or lack thereof – but as they all left the stadium on their way to breakfast, they remembered why they were really there: to make some special memories together, as the class of 2019.

Enjoying the time and preparing to see the sunrise with her friends, Senior Class President  Joy Moore said “It was really fun because everyone in the class was coming together and we were making memories that will last a lifetime.” On the topic of the sun not being visible, Joy said, “I was let down by the Earth”.

Selia Lucero stated that she felt “sad because there wasn’t any sun, but it was nice because it wasn’t very cold. I was happy to spend time with my friends, and get to go out to breakfast with them afterwards.’

In the end, the seniors didn’t need the sun to make the day fun and despite the sun not rising for the start of their senior year, it’s clear that the class of 2019 has a bright year ahead anyway.
